Cyberpunk 2: Everything We Know So Far

If you thought Night City’s chaos was over, think again. Cyberpunk 2, codenamed Project Orion, is officially on the way. And this time, CD Projekt Red seems determined to get it right from day one. After the wild ride of Cyberpunk 2077, from its overhyped launch to its surprisingly strong comeback, the stakes are higher than ever.

|A Fresh Start with Unreal Engine 5

The biggest change? CD Projekt Red is ditching their in-house REDengine for Unreal Engine 5. Why? Stability, visuals, and scalability. The first game looked incredible, but it was a technical mess at launch. With Unreal Engine 5, they’re aiming for a game that’s not just stunning but also runs smoothly on day one.

If you’ve seen what Unreal Engine 5 can do, like in the Matrix Awakens demo, you know it’s capable of some jaw dropping stuff.

|Who’s Making Cyberpunk 2?

Here’s something interesting, this isn’t just the same old team from CD Projekt Red. Cyberpunk 2 is being developed by their North American team, which includes studios in Boston and Vancouver.

It’s a fresh crew, but they’re not starting from scratch. Some of the original developers are still on board, so you’ve got a mix of new ideas and old experience.

|What’s the Story Going to Be About?

No one outside the studio really knows yet, but there are a few guesses. Given the multiple endings of Cyberpunk 2077, the sequel could take any of those as a starting point or go in a completely new direction.

Maybe we’ll leave Night City and see more of the Cyberpunk world. Maybe we’ll get a whole new protagonist with their own struggles. Personally, I hope they keep the mix of high-tech and low-life that made the first game’s world so interesting.

Cyberpunk 2077’s launch was a disaster. I still remember the bugs, the crashes, and the feeling of a game that just wasn’t finished. But CD Projekt Red didn’t give up.

They patched it, polished it, and released the Phantom Liberty expansion, which was actually fantastic. That’s a rare redemption arc for a modern game, and it’s a big reason why I think Cyberpunk 2 has a shot.

|How Long Until We See Cyberpunk 2?

Don’t get too excited just yet. Cyberpunk 2 is still in pre-production, which means the team is in the planning and design phase. No gameplay, no trailers, just ideas taking shape.

If I had to guess, we’re looking at 2027 at the earliest. That might feel like forever, but after the first game’s rushed launch, It’d rather they take their time and get it right.

There is no official word yet about the release, but it’s safe to bet that game would be available on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S. Depending on how long it takes, we might even see it on next-gen consoles that haven’t been announced yet.

CD Projekt Red has learned the hard way about the dangers of overpromising, and they’ve spent years making Cyberpunk 2077 the game it should have been at launch. With a new team, a new engine, and a clean slate, Cyberpunk 2 could be incredible.
