GTA 5 is still going strong even in 2025, with millions of players diving into Los Santos for heists, chaos, and wild roleplaying. But despite its massive popularity, one question refuses to go away, Is GTA 5 crossplay?

Unfortunately, nope, GTA 5 still doesn’t support crossplay. Even after more than ten years, Rockstar hasn’t made it possible for players on PC, PlayStation, and Xbox to team up. So if you’re on PlayStation and your friends rocking an Xbox or PC, you’re stuck in separate worlds.

Here’s where things get a little better. If you’re on a PS5 and your buddy is on a PS4, you can play together, but only if both of you are running the PS4 version of the game. The same goes for Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One players. So technically, GTA 5 supports cross-generation, just not full cross-platform play.

If you’re using the PS5 or Series X|S enhanced versions of GTA 5, you’re in a different lobby than your friends on older consoles. The workaround? Download the previous-gen version and sacrifice some of the graphical improvements to play together.

Honestly, it’s a mystery why Rockstar hasn’t added crossplay to such a massively successful game. But there are a few likely reasons:

Some players have looked into unofficial methods to force cross platform connections using mods or custom matchmaking tools, especially on PC. But these aren’t recommended, they can lead to game crashes, bans, or worse. Rockstar has strict policies when it comes to modding, especially in GTA Online.

If you’re hoping for crossplay, unfortunately, there’s no reliable or safe way to make it happen in GTA 5.

Now here’s the exciting part. All eyes are on GTA 6, which Rockstar officially revealed with a trailer and a release window of 2025. Players are hoping the new game will finally introduce full crossplay support.
