Is Outlast Trials Cross Platform? Here’s What You Need to Know
If you’re into horror games that make your palms sweat and your heart race, chances are you’ve at least heard of The Outlast Trials. It’s the latest entry in the Outlast series from Red Barrels, and it ditches the solo terror we’re used to for something even scarier, co-op. Yep, this time around, you’re not alone in the dark. But as I was gearing up to play with friends, the big question came up: Is The Outlast Trials cross platform?
Can I play with my squad even if they’re on different systems? I looked into it, and here’s what I found.
|What Is Outlast Trials?
Before diving into the cross-platform details, let’s talk about the game for a second. The Outlast Trials throws you into a twisted Cold War-era experiment where you and up to three other players take on horrifying trials as test subjects. The enemies are unpredictable, the tasks are intense, and teamwork is key, not just to complete objectives, but to survive with your sanity intact.
What really grabbed me was how well the game blends stealth, survival, and pure psychological horror. And trust me, it’s a whole different kind of terrifying when your friend suddenly screams through the mic.
|Is The Outlast Trials Cross Platform?
Here’s the good news: yes, The Outlast Trials is fully cross-platform. That means players on PC (Steam and Epic), PlayStation 4 and 5, and Xbox One and Series X/S can all team up and play together.
It’s super easy to play with friends across platforms too. The game has its own in-game friend system, so you’re not stuck figuring out who’s on what console or messing around with third-party software. Just swap your Outlast Trials friend code, send an invite, and boom, you’re ready to face your fears together.
Honestly, this kind of crossplay should be the norm, not the exception. But for now, it’s refreshing to see a game actually get it right.

|What About Cross Progression?
This is where things get a bit tricky. As of now, cross progression isn’t available. So if you start playing on, say, your PS5, and later want to switch over to PC, your progress won’t carry over. You’ll have to start fresh on the new system.
That means you’ll lose your character level, gear unlocks, and any cosmetics you’ve earned. It’s definitely a little disappointing, especially in a game where progress takes some serious work. Still, if you’re sticking to one platform, you’ve got nothing to worry about.
|Is Multiplayer Any Good?
Absolutely. Whether you’re playing with one friend or a full group of four, the co-op in The Outlast Trials adds a whole new level of fear. You’ll have to complete objectives together while avoiding enemies, solving puzzles, and navigating dark, tense environments. Communication is everything, and honestly, hearing your buddy scream after taking a wrong turn is half the fun.
You can even use the game’s Group Finder if you don’t have friends online. It’ll match you with others who are tackling the same trial. It’s not as reliable as playing with friends, but it gets the job done when you’re flying solo.
The Outlast Trials is easily one of the most exciting horror co-op games I’ve played in a while. And the fact that it’s fully cross platform just makes it that much better. Whether you’re on Xbox, PlayStation, or PC, you can jump into the madness with your friends, no barriers, no drama.
It’s a shame there’s no cross progression yet. If you haven’t tried it yet and love horror games, I highly recommend giving it a go. Just don’t forget to bring your headset… and maybe a nightlight.
