Is Rimworld Multiplayer?
You’ve probably spent countless hours in RimWorld watching your colonists turn a thriving base into a flaming mess because someone forgot to feed the huskies. And at some point, you’ve likely thought, “Man, this would be so much more fun (or chaotic) with friends.” guess what? You can play RimWorld multiplayer. Kind of.
RimWorld doesn’t have official multiplayer support, but thanks to some incredibly talented modders, you can still build and survive together. And after giving it a try, I’m here to tell you it’s worth the effort.
|What Are Your Multiplayer Options?
Zetrith’s Multiplayer Mod
This is the classic go-to for RimWorld multiplayer. With Zetrith’s Multiplayer Mod, you and your friends control the same colony in real-time. That means you’ll be sharing colonists, managing tasks together, and trying not to argue over where the fridge goes.
The mod works pretty smoothly. It supports up to eight players and is best used with the base game or very few mods to avoid hiccups.
You can find it easily on the Steam Workshop. Setup is quick, and thankfully, there’s no need for messing with servers or port forwarding.
RimWorld Together
This one’s a bit newer but super cool. Instead of controlling the same colony, RimWorld Together lets you and your friends run separate colonies in the same world. You can visit each other, trade, or even go full PvP and raid them (no judgment).

|A Few Tips from Someone Who’s Been There
Keep your mod list short. Trust me, less is more in multiplayer.
Use voice chat. You’re going to need it when the manhunting squirrels arrive and nobody remembered to build a door.
Save often, especially if you’re hosting. It’s RimWorld, things go sideways fast.
Don’t be afraid to restart. Sometimes the best stories start with total failure.
Multiplayer brings out the best in roleplaying. Players can take on specific roles farming, building, training animals, and really lean into their strengths (or weaknesses). The game becomes a dynamic colony sim where communication and teamwork make or break the group.
For anyone who enjoys co-op games or sandbox sims, RimWorld multiplayer is absolutely worth checking out. It might not be perfect, but it’s packed with unpredictable fun. Whether you’re building together or just watching your friend accidentally butcher their best colonist, it adds a whole new layer of fun (and chaos) to an already fantastic game.
So no, RimWorld doesn’t have official multiplayer. But with a little modding magic, it might just become your favorite way to play.
