When Starfield finally launched in 2023, it was a big deal, Bethesda’s first new universe in over two decades, and a massive open world RPG. But for many Playstation fans, the celebration was bittersweet. The game was only available on Xbox and PC, leaving PS5 players wondering: Is Starfield coming to PS5?

As of now, Bethesda and Microsoft haven’t officially confirmed anything. Starfield is still listed as an Xbox/PC exclusive. But behind the scenes, things might be shifting.

Several reliable industry insiders have reported that a PS5 version is very much in the works. In fact, there were initial plans to launch Starfield on Playstation alongside its major expansion, Shattered Space. That didn’t happen, but it wasn’t due to cancellation. Instead, it seems the release was quietly delayed, possibly to give Xbox a longer window of exclusivity.

Good question, Microsoft owns Bethesda now, so keeping games exclusive makes sense, right?

Well, sort of. Over the last year or so, Microsoft has been softening its stance on exclusivity. Games like Sea of Thieves, Hi-Fi Rush, and Grounded have all made their way to PS5. It’s part of a bigger strategy to reach more players, and yes, make more money.

Phil Spencer, the head of Xbox, has even gone on record saying there are “no red lines” when it comes to bringing Xbox-owned games to other platforms. That opens the door for Starfield to go multi platform too, especially given how massive the PS5 player base is.

If Starfield is coming to PS5, the most likely timing would be sometime after the Shattered Space DLC drops for Xbox and PC. That’s expected later in 2025. It’s possible that Bethesda is planning to use that DLC as a big re-launch moment, this time with Playstation included.

Right now, all we can do is wait and watch for announcements, but if the rumors are true, we might hear something by the end of 2025 or early 2026.

|What Will the PS5 Version Look Like?

Assuming the game does make it over, the PS5 version of Starfield will likely be nearly identical to what Xbox players are already enjoying: a sprawling RPG with over 1,000 planets to explore, spaceship customization, intense space combat, and deep storylines.

What might set the PS5 version apart is the hardware specific features, like haptic feedback from the DualSense controller, or improved load times thanks to the PS5’s SSD.

Right now, we can’t say for sure that Starfield is coming to PS5, but it’s looking more likely than ever. Microsoft’s shift toward sharing its games more broadly is real, and Playstation players are a huge potential market.
