Resident Evil 9 Brings Horror Back in a Big Way
Capcom has finally revealed the next game in the Resident Evil series. Called Resident Evil 9: Requiem, it was announced at Summer Game Fest 2025 and is planned to release on February 27, 2026. The game will be out on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC, skipping the older consoles.
This time, you play as Grace Ashcroft, a new main character who’s an FBI agent. Her job is to investigate strange deaths, but soon she finds out there is more to the case, connected to her own past. Her mother, journalist Alyssa Ashcroft, died many years ago in mysterious ways, and Grace ends up uncovering a new virus that causes terrible mutations.
From what we seen so far, Resident Evil 9 brings back the dark and creepy feel the series is known for. The game will take you back to Raccoon City, a place many fans will recognize. Classic places like the Raccoon City Police Department and the Spencer Mansion will return. They’ve been rebuilt using the RE Engine, making them look better and scarier than ever.

Capcom said the game focuses more on survival horror, similar to Resident Evil 7 and Village. You can expect tense moments, limited ammo, puzzles, and enemies that are truly frightening. This virus seems to affect the mind as well as the body, adding more psychological horror than before.
The game is directed by Koshi Nakanishi, who also made RE7, so we can expect lot of horror and atmosphere. While no gameplay has been shown yet, the trailer gives a dark and scary vibe, hinting at a slower, more suspenseful game than just nonstop fighting.
We don’t know if familiar characters like Leon Kennedy, Jill Valentine, or Chris Redfield will appear yet. Capcom is keeping that secret for now, but since the series stories usually connect somehow. I wouldn’t be surprised if some of them come back.
The world in Resident Evil 9 seems bigger and more open, with extra areas to explore and secrets to find. Capcom also said choices might affect parts of the story, which is new for the series.
There isn’t any demo announced yet, but maybe we’ll see gameplay later this year, possibly around Halloween, perfect timing for a horror game like this.
All in all, Resident Evil 9: Requiem looks like a strong new entry for the series. A fresh story, new character, and return of Raccoon City make it one to watch. If you love true survival horror, this could be your next big game.
