RuneScape Dragonwilds Is A Fresh Take on Survival

If you’ve ever wondered what a RuneScape survival game might look like, good news, it’s here. RuneScape Dragonwilds is Jagex’s brand-new open-world survival title set in the RuneScape universe, and it’s already available in early access on Steam as of April 2025.

Instead of your typical MMO grind, Dragonwilds drops you into a completely wild, untamed continent called Ashenfall. It’s brutal, full of dragons, and packed with survival mechanics like crafting, base-building, and magic-fueled abilities. Whether you’re playing solo or teaming up with a few friends, it’s all about staying alive in a world that wants you very, very dead.

|What’s It Like to Play?

At its core, Dragonwilds is all about surviving in a land where nature and dragons are constantly trying to wipe you out. You’ll collect resources, build shelters, craft gear, and level up your skills, pretty familiar survival game stuff, but with a RuneScape twist. One of the coolest parts? You get to use a mysterious magical energy called Anima to power up your abilities and gain an edge.

You can play alone or with up to three friends, and the game really encourages teamwork, especially when you’re up against massive dragons or trying to establish a base in dangerous territory.

|Early Access – What’s Coming Next?

Right now, the game’s still in early access, and Jagex has already shared some of the roadmap. Expect more biomes to explore, new creatures to fight, and higher skill caps (it currently tops out at level 50, but they plan to bump it to 99). And yes, more dragons are coming. Including the big one: the Dragon Queen.

Jagex has promised that all early access updates will be free, and the full release is planned for early 2026. RuneScape: Dragonwilds is available in early access on Steam for $29.99 USD. The price includes all early updates.

As of now, Dragonwilds is only available on Steam for PC players. One catch, despite buying it on Steam, you’ll still need to sign in with an Epic Games account to play. Some players aren’t thrilled about that, and Jagex has said they’re listening to feedback, so we’ll see if that changes.

|RuneScape Dragonwilds PS5?

If you’re a PS5 player hoping to jump into the RuneScape universe, you’re probably wondering if Dragonwilds, or even classic RuneScape, is coming to consoles. Right now, the answer is no. RuneScape is still only on PC and mobile, and while there are some unofficial workarounds to play on PS5 using the browser or remote play, it’s far from ideal.

That said, with Dragonwilds’ launch, there’s been some chatter about a possible console release in the future. Rumors suggest that Jagex might aim for a PS5 and Xbox launch sometime in 2026, but nothing’s been confirmed yet. Fingers crossed, though.

Dragonwilds is definitely a big swing for Jagex, and honestly? It works. It’s a fresh take on the RuneScape world, familiar enough to make fans feel at home, but new enough to stand on its own. Whether you’re a longtime RuneScape veteran or someone who’s never touched Gielinor before, this one’s worth checking out.

Just be ready to run… because dragons don’t go easy.
