The First Descendant Crossplay: What You Need to Know

The First Descendant is visually stunning, fast-paced, and just plain fun to play. It’s a free-to-play third-person looter shooter where you take on the role of a Descendant, a hero with powerful abilities fighting to save humanity from an alien threat. The combat feels punchy, the boss battles are epic, and there’s a ton of gear and skills to experiment with. What I really love is how smooth it feels, especially when playing with friends thanks to the First Descendant crossplay and cross-progression. It’s shaping up to be a standout co-op experience.

If you’re even slightly into sci-fi shooters or looter-style RPGs, The First Descendant is probably already on your radar. I’ve been diving into it recently, and one of the things that instantly impressed me is how well it handles crossplay and cross-progression.

In a world where we’re all scattered across PCs, Xboxes, and PlayStations, this is one of those rare games that lets everyone play together, no hassle, no weird workarounds.

|Full Crossplay Across All Platforms

Crossplay is enabled by default, which I absolutely love. From the moment you log in, whether you’re on Steam, PS5, Xbox Series X|S, or even last-gen consoles, you’re matched up with players from every platform. It’s surprisingly smooth.

If you do want to disable crossplay for any reason (like regional matchmaking or personal preference), it’s easy to do:

  • Go to Settings

  • Head into the Gameplay tab

  • Toggle Crossplay on or off

Xbox players might also need to check their console’s system settings, but for most players, it’s a one-and-done setup.

|Playing With Friends Is Easy

One thing that makes this system even better is how easy it is to squad up with your friends across platforms. Each player has a unique Player ID, a name plus four-digit code, and once you search for and add them, they stay in your friend list.

Here’s how it works:

  • Open the Social menu

  • Use Player Search to find your friend’s ID

  • Send a request and start playing together

Whether you’re teaming up for story missions or jumping into boss fights, the game makes sure there’s no friction in getting your squad together.

|Cross-Progression Is a Game-Changer

The First Descendant features full cross-progression, meaning your character, loadout, levels, cosmetics, and more carry over to any platform where you play. That’s massive for people who switch between PC and console depending on mood or convenience.

To make it work:

  • Create or log in to a Nexon account

  • Link it to your Steam, Xbox, and/or PlayStation account(s)

  • Your progress is now synced across devices

So, whether you’re gaming at your desk or lounging on your couch, you pick up right where you left off. That’s honestly how modern games should function.

|A Modern Approach to Multiplayer

In a gaming world still dealing with platform fragmentation, The First Descendant feels refreshingly up-to-date. It doesn’t just support crossplay, it embraces it. Add that to the cross-progression and smooth social tools, and you’ve got a game that truly respects your time and your gaming setup.

So if you’ve been holding off because your friends are split between systems, don’t worry. This game’s got you covered, and I’d argue it’s even better when you’re not stuck playing in platform silos.
